Description
The cartographers of the past drew lines over the unknown to make it habitable, comprehensible, controllable. But the most complex territory has always been the human face — that surface concealing layers of time, of wound, of sedimented memory.
In Cartography, a face emerges from darkness like an archaeological discovery: partially visible, partially buried. Over it, fine lines of gold and crimson — traced with the urgency of one who takes notes before something disappears — form a web that is simultaneously record and veil. The map does not clarify: it complicates. The territory does not surrender: it persists.
The gaze of the depicted figure knows this. Those eyes watching us from the depths of the painting do not ask for understanding: they ask for recognition. The difference is crucial.
