UMBRASTUDIO

About Umbra Studio

We live in the age of weightless images. Thousands of pieces generated, consumed, and forgotten before anyone has truly looked at them. Umbra Studio was born as a response to that: not a rejection of technology, but a rejection of disposability.

Every work we produce goes through a slow process — one of searching, refining, discarding. What reaches the paper is not the first thing that works: it is what withstands prolonged attention, distance, and time.

The shadow — umbra — is not the absence of light. It is depth. The space where form acquires dimension and character.

Closed editions of nine

We work in series of nine prints per work. Nine is not a commercial limit: it is a position. Scarcity is not a marketing strategy; it is part of the meaning of the piece. A print numbered within nine carries a solitude that one numbered within a thousand cannot.

When an edition sells out, it is permanently retired. No reprints. No exceptions.

Paper as a deliberate choice

We print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 g/m²: pure cotton, acid-free, with FineArt Certificate. It is not a substrate. It is a declaration about how long a work should last.

Precision giclée printing — produced in specialist laboratories across three continents — delivers tonal fidelity that a screen cannot replicate. The blacks have depth. The golds have warmth. The white of the paper breathes between forms.

Every print arrives with its hand-numbered Hahnemühle Certificate of Authenticity.

What we do not produce

We do not produce decorative images. We do not produce visual content at scale. We do not print until a work has survived weeks of curatorial consideration, technical refinement, and silence.

What enters an Umbra Studio collection is what has endured long enough to deserve the paper.

Current collections are available as open editions until each work’s nine prints are claimed.
