Description
Before writing came observation. Ancient augurs read the flight of birds, the movement of wind through branches, the circles traced by celestial bodies: everything was language, everything was sign. Augury recovers that mode of seeing.
The tree — axis mundi, spine of the visible and invisible world — rises at the centre of the composition with the authority of what has always been there. Its branches do not end in leaves: they end in spirals that are eyes, that are suns, that are galaxies turning from before there was a name to name them. And the birds — dark silhouettes against chromatic splendour — carry messages that cannot be translated into human language without losing something essential.
The palette is that of a world still in formation: turquoise, ochre yellow, burnt orange, earth red. Colours that precede civilisation but also announce it.
