Description
There is a form of beauty that happens in the absence of a gaze. That does not need to be seen to be real, but that weighs more, somehow, for not being witnessed.
Blooming with no witness is the most intimate work in DERIVA. A female figure in closed profile, bare shoulders, surrounded by large orchids that approach with an almost uncomfortable familiarity. The flowers are beautiful. They are indifferent. Their blooming does not depend on her or include her — it happens around her, upon her, with perfect autonomy.
Her hands dissolve into stems. Her feet into roots. She is being absorbed by something living that does not need her.
The only work in the collection where color appears with some presence: cold indigo blue in the petals — the single chromatic note of life in the entire series.
Expressive charcoal and Chinese ink wash on cool ivory ground. Fifth work of the DERIVA collection. Edition of 9 numbered copies. Giclée print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 g/m².
