Description
The myth of the descent into the underworld does not end in the underworld. Orpheus descends and rises. Persephone returns. The hero who crosses the darkness does not emerge the same: they emerge transformed by everything seen in the depths, by the forms encountered at the bottom.
ANASTASIS is the ninth work of ABYSSOS because without the complete journey — the first void, the sleeping spiral, the nameless presence, the crack, the unblinking eye, the tide, the voice, the burning threshold — this emergence would not be possible. It is not a conventional dawn. It is something that only exists because there was enough darkness first.
The form that emerges from the black is not identifiable. It is neither a human figure nor a flower nor a planet, though it could be any of the three — or all three at once. It is pure possibility taking form. Cobalt blue and titanium white dominate the composition with a luminosity that, after the eight preceding works, feels almost painful. And over everything, the only gold strokes of the entire collection: not as ornament, but as evidence that what emerges carries something from the depths within it.
The most luminous piece of ABYSSOS. And the one that makes the entire collection meaningful from the very beginning.
