Description
From the Eye of Horus in ancient Egypt to the omniscient eye of Western esoteric traditions, from the Turkish Nazar to the third eye of Eastern traditions: the eye is the universal symbol of the consciousness that observes. The knowledge that does not sleep. The presence that cannot be ignored because it looks back directly.
AJNA takes that archetype and strips away all ornament. No anatomical detail, no specific cultural reference: only the essential form of the eye — drawn with raw, almost primitive expressionist strokes — on a ground of absolute black. The iris is sulphur yellow. An improbable, almost toxic colour that does not belong in the darkness, and precisely for that reason is impossible to ignore.
The tension of the work lies in that returning gaze. The viewer observes the work. The work observes the viewer. And at some point in that exchange, the direction of contemplation reverses.
A piece for collectors who do not avoid discomfort. Who know that the most honest art sometimes asks questions that have no comfortable answer.
